Reading your letter this morning was especially nurturing as I had just read texts from two friends experiencing significant health challenges. Sadly, many of my days include some type of serious medical news from one or more of my contemporaries. It is simply part of my current life landscape. I'm sorry to hear about the health challenges your friends are experiencing. That's never easy. It's so important to recognize hard moments and look for joy, too. It's a topic Ross Gay has written about extensively. I love his books!
Ursula watching the squirrel reminded me of the time a baby fawn came to the sliding door on my patio and my 3-pound kitten lost her ever-loving mind and hurled herself at the glass trying to make it go away. She's 8 now, but she's still my watchdog. I always do a little voice for her where she says, "This is not authorized!" when I can tell she's feeling vexed.

Ohhh such a tiny protector! "This is not authorized!" is a perfect sentiment. ;)
It's amazing how much cats notice. I love watching Ursula watch all the outside critters go by.
